Best Collar & Harness for a Rottweiler
The short answer: a Rottweiler needs a leather collar at least 2 in (5 cm) wide — 2.5 in (6.3 cm) for most adults — that actually comes in XL and XXL, plus a padded leather harness for pulling and long walks. Most adult Rottweilers have a neck of 21.7–27.6 in (55–70 cm) and wear an XL collar and an L/XL harness. Measure before you buy; a Rottie's neck barely tapers, so weight is a poor guide.
Bestia started in 2015 in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, when our founder couldn't find gear strong enough for his own two Cane Corsos — so he built it. Rottweilers were next in line: same weight class, same kind of neck, same problem with "large" collars that stop one size too early.
Why a Rottweiler is hard on dog gear
🔸 A drover's build. The breed drove cattle and pulled carts for centuries. An adult runs 88–132 lb (40–60 kg), most of it in the chest and neck, and it leans into resistance with the whole body.
🔸 The neck outruns the size chart. 21.7–27.6 in (55–70 cm) around is normal for an adult. Plenty of collars sold as "large" top out right where that range begins.
🔸 Force finds the weak point. On a dog this strong, thin leather cracks, stitched-on D-rings tear out and small buckles bend. The fix is a 4 mm (0.16 in) belt-leather base and hardware sized to the collar — up to 2 in (50 mm) buckles and D-rings.
Collar or harness? Usually both
A wide collar is the everyday tool: it holds the tags and gives you close control at your side. A harness takes the throat out of the equation and puts the load on the chest — exactly where a Rottweiler carries its power. Most Rottie owners we ship to own both:
🔸 Collar — calm daily walks, ID, around the house and yard
🔸 Harness — pulling dogs, long walks, training, young males still learning leash manners
How to choose a collar for a Rottweiler
Width first: 2 in (5 cm) minimum, 2.5 in (6.3 cm) for most adults. A narrow strap puts a Rottweiler's pull on a thin line across the throat; a wide one spreads the same force over far more neck.
Then measure the neck where the collar will sit — mid-neck, snug, with room for two flat fingers. On most of our collars:
🔸 L — neck 19.7–23.6 in (50–60 cm) — smaller females
🔸 XL — neck 22.6–26.6 in (57.5–67.5 cm) — most adult Rottweilers
🔸 XXL — neck 25.6–29.6 in (65–75 cm) — the biggest males
🔸 A few models run a slightly different chart (on the "Crown" and "Silver Giant", XL is 22.6–25.6 in) — always check the product page.
The "Hektor" Collar — where we would start
A 4 mm (0.16 in) belt-leather base, 2.5 in (6.3 cm) wide, signature silver rivets, a soft padded inside and 2 in (50 mm) nickel-plated buckle and D-ring. Sizes M to XXL.

The "Eros" Collar 2.5 inch — for the dog that leans into the leash
2.5 in (6.3 cm) wide on 4 mm belt leather, two rivet styles, a padded pig- or lamb-leather lining and 2 in (50 mm) hardware. Sizes M to XXL.
→ The "Eros" Collar 2.5 inch, black & red
The "Crown" Collar — the heavyweight
Two base layers of leather — about 0.4 in (1 cm) thick in total — at 2.8 in (7 cm) wide, with heavy-duty 1.6 in (40 mm) hardware in silver or gold. Made in L to XXL only, and the product page names the Rottweiler outright.
→ The "Crown" Collar Black
The "Silver Giant" — the classic spiked Bestia
4 mm belt leather, 2.5 in (6.3 cm) wide, with ½ in (12 mm) nickel-plated screw-back spikes — fastened through the leather, not glued, so they can be snugged up for the life of the collar. Cushion in red, pink, black or white.

How to choose a harness for a Rottweiler
Measure the chest at its widest point, right behind the front legs:
🔸 L/XL — chest 23.6–45.3 in (60–115 cm) — fits most adult Rottweilers
🔸 M — chest 19.7–29.5 in (50–75 cm) — puppies and young dogs; re-measure every few months
🔸 Our XXL harness is cut for giant breeds (Bullmastiffs, Kangals, St. Bernards) — a Rottweiler rarely needs it.
Look for 4 mm (0.16 in) leather, a padded chest plate and two chest straps, which keep the harness square on a broad chest when the dog pulls sideways.
The "Hektor" Harness
4 mm belt leather, a foam-padded chest plate, two chest straps and nickel-plated hardware. Matches the "Hektor" collar.
→ The "Hektor" Harness
The "Eros" Harness
4 mm premium belt leather with a soft pigskin lining, the two-rivet "Eros" pattern and two chest straps.
→ The "Eros" Harness, black & red
The "Eros" BIG dog set — harness, collar and leash
The whole kit in one order: the 4 mm harness with a padded chest plate, the 2.5 in (6.3 cm) collar with 2 in (50 mm) hardware, and a 35.4 in (90 cm) leash with a padded handle.

Caring for leather on a Rottweiler
🔸 Wipe the collar and harness with a barely damp cloth after muddy walks — never soak leather
🔸 Condition the leather two or three times a year
🔸 Check the fit monthly until age three — Rottweilers fill out late
🔸 Run a finger over spikes and rivets at cleaning time; screw-backs tighten in seconds
🔸 Take gear off before swimming; water is leather's only real enemy

FAQ
What width of collar is best for a Rottweiler?
At least 2 in (5 cm), and 2.5 in (6.3 cm) or wider for most adults. A wide collar spreads a Rottweiler's pull across the neck instead of concentrating it on the throat.
What size collar does a Rottweiler need?
Most adult Rottweilers have a neck of 21.7–27.6 in (55–70 cm). On most of our collars that is size XL (22.6–26.6 in) for most adults, L (19.7–23.6 in) for smaller females and XXL (25.6–29.6 in) for the biggest males. Always check the chart on the product page.
What size harness does a Rottweiler need?
Measure the chest at its widest point, just behind the front legs. Most adult Rottweilers fit our L/XL harness (chest 23.6–45.3 in / 60–115 cm); size M (chest 19.7–29.5 in / 50–75 cm) suits young dogs.
Is a collar or a harness better for a Rottweiler?
Both, for different jobs. A wide collar for calm everyday walks and ID tags; a padded harness for pulling, training and long walks, because it puts the load on the chest where this front-heavy breed carries its strength.
Why don't regular large collars fit my Rottweiler?
Many store-bought large collars stop around 21.7–23.6 in (55–60 cm), which is where an adult Rottweiler's neck begins. Our collars run to XXL, 25.6–29.6 in (65–75 cm).
How long does shipping take to the US?
Express delivery takes 2–4 business days to the USA once the order ships. Shipping is free on US orders over $150 (USPS Priority). Made-to-order combinations are assembled within 7 days.
