Bully & Pitbull Harness and Collar Guide

The short answer: for a Pitbull, AmStaff or American Bully, buy a padded leather harness for walks, training and pulling, and a leather collar 2.3 in (6 cm) or wider for everyday control and ID. Build matters more than looks: 4 mm (0.16 in) belt leather, reinforced stitching and spikes or studs fastened through the leather, not glued on. Most dogs in this group have a neck of 17.7–23.6 in (45–60 cm) — measure the neck and the chest before you order.

Bestia started in 2015 in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, when our founder couldn't find gear strong enough for his own two Cane Corsos. The Bully community found us early — two of the collars below were built with it, not just for it.

Why this breed group breaks ordinary gear

🔸 Maximum muscle, low to the ground. An adult Pitbull or AmStaff typically weighs 66–88 lb (30–40 kg); an XL Bully goes well past that. When that dog hits the end of the leash, the force arrives as a short, sharp shock — exactly where thin straps and buckle holes give up.
🔸 A neck built like a shoulder. Thick for the dog's height, so a narrow collar puts every pull on a thin strip of throat.
🔸 Jaws that test everything. Glued decorations and hollow rivets don't survive play with a housemate. Everything decorative below is screwed or riveted through the leather.

Harness or collar? Usually both

🔸 Harness — the walking and training tool for a dog that pulls; it moves the load from the throat to the broad chest this breed is famous for
🔸 Collar — ID tags, calm walks at your side, and the look this community wears with pride

How to choose a harness for a Bully or Pitbull

Measure the chest at its widest point, just behind the front legs, snug but not tight:

🔸 M — chest 19.7–29.5 in (50–75 cm)
🔸 L/XL — chest 23.6–45.3 in (60–115 cm) — the size for XL Bullies and big, deep-chested males
🔸 The two ranges overlap. Pick the size where your dog's measurement sits nearest the middle, and re-measure a young dog every few months — this breed group fills out between about 12 and 30 months.

What to look for: 4 mm (0.16 in) leather, a padded chest plate so the load spreads instead of digging in, and two chest straps on the larger sizes to keep the harness square on a wide chest.

Caring for leather on a short-coated powerhouse

🔸 Wipe with a barely damp cloth after muddy walks — never soak leather
🔸 Condition the leather two or three times a year
🔸 Give screw-back spikes and buckle stitching a quick check every few months
🔸 Re-measure neck and chest once or twice a year — muscle changes, especially on young dogs
🔸 Take gear off before swimming; water is leather's only real enemy

FAQ

What is the best harness for an American Bully or Pitbull?
A leather harness with a padded chest plate, 4 mm (0.16 in) leather where the load sits and two chest straps for a square fit on a wide chest. Measure the chest behind the front legs: our M fits 19.7–29.5 in (50–75 cm) and L/XL fits 23.6–45.3 in (60–115 cm).

What width of collar is best for a Pitbull or American Bully?
2.3 in (6 cm) or wider. These dogs carry a thick, muscular neck on a compact frame, and a narrow strap concentrates every pull on a small strip of throat. A wide, padded collar spreads it.

What size collar does a Pitbull or American Bully need?
Most dogs in this group have a neck of 17.7–23.6 in (45–60 cm). On most of our collars that is size M (16.7–20.6 in) or L (19.7–23.6 in); XL Bullies often need XL and up. Measure where the collar sits and pick the size that puts your dog near the middle of the range.

Why does my Pitbull keep breaking collars?
Most collars aren't built for this breed group's short, explosive pulls and strong jaws. The usual failure points are thin straps, single-row stitching and glued-on decorations. Look for 4 mm (0.16 in) belt leather and spikes or studs fastened through the leather.

Are spiked collars comfortable for the dog?
When they're built right, yes. The spikes are screwed through thick leather and face outward, while the side against the dog is a smooth padded lining.

How long does shipping take to the US?
Express delivery takes 2–4 business days to the USA once the order ships. Shipping is free on US orders over $150 (USPS Priority). Made-to-order combinations are assembled within 7 days.
